Mai’s story.
I’ve always believed in the power of connection. Growing up as a biracial child in a household where music and culture intertwined, I was exposed to diverse perspectives and rich traditions. This early exposure taught me that the most meaningful progress often happens when we bridge worlds, embracing differences to create something greater than the sum of its parts.
My journey has taken me from corporate boardrooms to grassroots movements. Navigating spaces as a woman in predominantly corporate environments, I learned the importance of advocating for diversity and inclusion. After helping companies like Travelzoo go public, I realized that my true calling was elsewhere—building connections that inspire change and create opportunities for those who have been historically marginalized. This realization led me back to Cleveland, where I co-founded EYEJ: Empowering Youth, Exploring Justice. EYEJ was born from a desire to address the social and racial inequities I saw around me. It was about creating a space where youth, particularly those from underserved communities, could have a voice and drive change. Through EYEJ, I’ve had the privilege of working with thousands of underserved youth and adults, addressing issues like police reform and digital equity that are not just professional interests but personal passions. Balancing a demanding career while raising my daughter as a single mother has been one of the most challenging—and rewarding—parts of my life. Being part of a multicultural family has given me a unique perspective on the importance of cultural heritage and resilience in the face of challenges. It’s taught me the importance of staying true to my mission: to create a world where everyone has the opportunity to thrive, regardless of their background. Whether through EYEJ or my newer venture, Boss Me In, which focuses on bridging generational gaps in leadership, I’m dedicated to lifting others up and building bridges that unite us.For me, leadership isn’t just about guiding others; it’s about connecting people, fostering unity, and driving positive change. My story is one of growth, courage, and a deep commitment to making the world a better place. I’m here to lead with authenticity and purpose, to bridge worlds, and inspire the change we all want to see. My work is rooted in the belief that equity and inclusion are essential foundations for a more just and connected world.
